🏞️ Son La Hydroelectric Lake - A vast water space in the heart of the Northwest
Located in Son La province, Son La Hydroelectric Lake is the largest artificial lake in Vietnam, formed after the construction of the hydroelectric dam of the same name. The lake stretches across many communes in Quynh Nhai, creating a vast, clear water surface, likened to a "miniature Ha Long Bay" in the mountains and forests of the Northwest.
🌊 Experience water fun at the lake
🛶 Rent a boat to tour the lake: Visitors can rent a small boat or a tourist boat to explore the small islands, rocky beaches, and underground caves scattered around the lake. Trips are often combined with visiting villages along the lake, enjoying ethnic cuisine.
🏊♀️ Swimming in the middle of the lake: Some homestays along the lake (such as Lapapap Home, Quynh Nhai Ecolodge, or Muong Gion Homestay) organize swimming activities right in the middle of the lake - a cool, free experience, very popular in the summer. Guests are equipped with life jackets, often accompanied by an instructor to ensure safety.
🏄 SUP / kayaking: Some places also provide stand-up paddle boards (SUP) or kayaks for visitors to explore the lake in a gentle, relaxing and close-to-nature way. The ideal time to paddle is early morning or late afternoon to watch the sunset.
🎣 Fishing, picnicking by the lake: With a calm water surface and plenty of natural fish, this area is very suitable for those who love fishing and enjoying the peaceful space
🌅 Watching the sunset on the lake
One of the "addictive" points of Son La hydroelectric lake is the brilliant sunset reflected on the water surface, especially when viewed from the boat docks of Chieng On, Chieng Bang communes or the rocky shore of Pa Uon village. The poetic scenery evokes a sense of peace, separate from the noisy everyday world.
