Tea and coffee
1. General Introduction
Oolong tea is one of the most premium tea varieties cultivated in Moc Chau Plateau – an area blessed with a cool climate year-round, frequent mist, and ideal altitudes above 1,000 meters. Here, imported Oolong cultivars are grown using strict, high-standard techniques, resulting in high-quality tea buds with a distinctive Northwest flavor profile.
2. Distinctive Features
- Flavor: Mild aroma, smooth and mellow taste with a lingering sweetness. Depending on processing, the tea may feature floral, milky, or honey-like notes (such as orchid, milk, or fruit).
- Appearance: Rolled into small, tightly twisted balls; when steeped, the leaves unfurl into whole, tender tea leaves.
- Processing: Oolong is semi-fermented (15–70%), balancing the characteristics of green and black tea.
3. Key Growing Areas
- Moc Chau Farm Town, Tan Lap Commune, and Hua Pang Commune – home to tea plantations grown under VietGAP and organic standards, with modern Taiwanese-inspired processing technologies.
- Notable producers include: Moc Suong Oolong Tea Company, Moc Chau Xanh Tea Cooperative.
4. Value & Uses
- Rich in antioxidants, theanine, and polyphenols, which help with relaxation, cardiovascular health, weight management, and anti-aging.
- Popular in the premium tea segment, ideal for gifting, tea tasting, and daily wellness rituals.
